mperryin reply to: Feelings and emotions with Graves Disease #1185689Rob,
How long did it take you to get regulated after thyroid surgery?I had surgery June 3, 2020 and my TSH 5 weeks out was 22. so now I have gone low and feel crappy. Just wondering hoe long it takes for most to get to normal and feel better. So tired of this. I stay emotionally on a rollar coaster.

Kimberly,
I contacted my doctor and he said to take 30 minutes prior to breakfast.
I don’t know how much leeway there is on taking it at the same time every day. Does it need to be exactly 24 hours, or is there wiggle room?mperry
Kimberly,
Thank you. i take other meds so I wasn’t sure which to take first. What time do most take their hormones? They didn’t advise me.

What is a PPI?thank you,
mperryIt has been 5 weeks since I started the Levothyroxine. I take it at 4 am along with the cytomel now. I wasn’t instructed on how to take the cytomel. Food or no food. I have been taking it with my other med on an empty stomach. Is this ok?
Since my TSH is so high, my doctor recommended I wait to taper off the meds. I tried and it didn’t go well. .
Weird thing is I felt really good for two weeks after I started my hormones. I felt normal. So weird to now feel so bad.
I haven’t been taking calcium within 4 hours of my meds.
I’m 120 pounds now and have lost 5 pounds since I started feeling badly again.
Any suggestions are welcome. I want good absorption. I was surprised at my TSH level.
I have friends on much less hormone and they weigh more than me so it doesn’t make sense. I thought they calculate by weight.
Does exercise affect levels? What are other things which can affect levels?
Thank you. I am so appreciative to you for the info.
in reply to: Getting regulated after thyroidectomy #1185759Thank you for all the great info and support. I DID start feeling better Saturday, which was 4 days after taking hormones! This week has been so much better. I feel like a “real” person again! LOL I am now one week on hormones! A night and day difference from where I was!
in reply to: Getting regulated after thyroidectomy #1185757Liz,
Thank you for your informative post. They didn’t tell me not to take calcium within four hours of my hormone replacement, but I haven’t anyway, so that is good, but I wouldn’t have known if you hadn’t told me, in case I changed my medication regime.
Thank you for the encouragement and all the details about what happens during surgery and how you might be affected. It does help to understand the physiology of it all.
I have been struggling so much with depression for months, it was getting better after surgery and then I went down again. I have never been through such a roller coaster of mental and emotional trauma like this and have it go on and on and on.
Just weary I guess. I want to get out and live my life and have felt so crummy for months. Sometimes it feels like it will not end.
Thank you. I keep trying to believe it will get better. Right now it is as if I am not rational.
Coping has felt monumental.
I appreciate this forum and the encouragement of those who have been through this!

Thank you for the information. Very helpful.in reply to: Questions on Thyroid surgery #1185746Thank you for your reply and for sharing the details of your journey. I was worried, going through surgery might not be better or even worse.
Thank you so much!in reply to: Questions on Thyroid surgery #1185745Thank you for your encouraging words and sharing the details of surgery and after. I want to feel normal again.
Thank you for sharing your journey. I have talked with one other graves patient and she did the surgery. She had pretty severe symptoms.
There seems to be controversy over if I just have toxic nodules or Graves or both. I am seeing a third specialist next week.
I had a consult with an endocrine surgeon and he recommended surgery for me. He said even when levels are normal on meds I would not feel like myself. Also, nodules can become cancerous. He seemed to disagree with the second diagnosis and wants to do an ultrasound.
It is so hard to hear many doctors opinions. This is the first one besides my primary care who seems to understand what I have been going through and how difficult this is. He told me being told insomnia was not related, was wrong. So, I at least I felt validated that this disease is causing my symptoms and that I am not just some psyche case.
Everyday is such a struggle. I have been on methemisole for 9 weeks. I still cry every day and feel foggy and depressed. I’m tired and unable to do much of anything.
The last doctor told me they were just concerned about getting numbers in range. They were not willing to consider all the symptoms I am still having, so I am seeing a third Endo. I have personal friends who have referred me based on their experience. I am hopeful he can sort my labs out and help me.
I have been having headaches every day, wondering if this is part of it?
Also, was it very difficult to get balanced on hormones? What was your experience after surgery?
Thank you
