Well I saw the second surgeon who would do the reconstructive surgery and decompression. He suggested several options but none of course without risks of worse double vision. Understood. His last comment to me because of my not knowing what to do either way was” If you were a truck driver and depended upon your driving for your livelyhood I wouldn’t touch you”. So there was my answer. Do nothing at this time and go get the prism glasses. I’m happy to report that the glasses do help with the driving. Yeah !!! Guess I will hope and pray that it never gets any worse than this and accept the way I look. Feeling blessed.

Thank you Liz for all your imput. It is reassuring. Dr. prescribed prism for me for driving as well . I have yet to fill the script as I’m waiting on second opinion to see if I need reconstructive surgery before muscle surgery. My left eye seems to give me the most trouble, I call it a lazy eye LOL. He thinks I can get away with no surgery if I want to, just try the prisms ! We’ll see. (no pun intented) .

Thanks Liz,it great to have support on this end. So after all your surgeries, do you still have dry eyes and have your eyes returned to a normal look again? My dr gave me an antiinflammatory to take for now but it makes me sick and massive headache so I stopped, I;ve done the whole iv steroid route and that has helped to keep it at bay. I guess I should just be thankful for where I’m at and be grateful that I can still function pretty normally. It sure is annoying though. LOL

    Thanks for being here !!!

Oh another thing, I too had RAI and my synthoird dose only changed 3 times in 7 years. The changes occured in the first year and stayed the same since. I’m grateful for feeling normal!! LOL

I have found that diet plays a big part in how my eyes are from day to day and how I actually feel. ( I feel excellent most of the time) I have had TED for 16 months now. When I eat gluten, —red eyes the next day, sugar– bloodshot,, tomatoes–real bloodshot. Salt–swollen eyes, dairy has the least affect on them that I could find. Everything starts in the gut. All of this is no fun but I do try very hard to eat the right foods. Fresh not processed.

    Update,
Saw my eye Dr and he is pleased with my numbers upon measuring my eyes. I have more movement from side to side and they are not as swollen. Feels that i’m on the burn out side now and will see what happens in the next 6 months. If I stay this way or get better we won’t have to do decompression surgery. : ) Still will have muscle surgery and reconstructive. Best news I’ve had in a year ! Still have double vision in morning and also at night when I get tired but still able to drive and work and play on the computer. Sunglasses are a must, and of course eye drops. Just wanted to share.

Wow, thanks for your update. It will be a year in April for me since the TED started and double vision in June started. So hopefully, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel soon. This is a journey like no other. Stay strong !

    Greetings,

I know first hand what you are dealing with when it comes to the ever changing eyes. One day is good, next one seems like this is terrible. They feel more swollen in the mornings and the double vision I have upon waking takes about 5 mins to clear. Eye drops are my salvation! Without the over the counter eye drops, my eyes would be bloodshot and itchy and gritty I have been to the nero-opthamologist. He does deal with TED. I’ve started on IV steroids for my moderate TED’s and dealing very well on a day to day basis. I work all day, drive, and everything in between. I do get fatigued much easier, and yes by night time my eyes are the worse. Just can’t seem to see clearly as during the day. My vision is still 20/20 straight on. I am very hopeful that all this will pass and I can be me again. My only salvation is that i’m grateful I can still see and lead a pretty normal life. The clients I work with at my job all have very serious disabilities and mine is very minor compared to their’s. For that i’m grateful. I also have a very supported husband. We all will get through this ! We can beat this!!! Rest when you can, it’s important.
