My 40 year old brother-in-law was just diagnosed with colon cancer and it looks like it’s spread to his liver, which is bad. He and my sister have 4 kids. We are all in shock. My sister lives out of state, and I’ll be going there once my BIL has surgery, to help out. He is the dearest man. My sister lost her first husband to suicide. We have had 3 other deaths in the family in less than 3 years. I’m starting to feel like our family is cursed.
I’ll check in from time to time once we find out the treatment plan. Thanks for listening.

I suspect I cannot be of any real help to you. But I am here if I can be, in any way at all This is really tough. I am so so sorry.
ShirleySueAndHerZooSeptember 15, 2013 at 10:08 amPost count: 439So sorry, Amy. Sometimes life seems horribly unfair and you can’t figure out why it’s all happening the way it does. If you believe in a Higher Power, now may be the time to start talking to him/her even more and trying to put your faith in the fact that everything is happening for a reason and all you can do is Accept and try to stay strong.
You will be greatly missed here and I hope you can check in from time to time but, if not, please know I’ll be thinking of you.
Sue

amosmcdSeptember 27, 2013 at 9:11 pmPost count: 231Thank you so much for your good wishes and prayers for my sister and brother-in-law and family.
Jerry starts chemo on Oct 7th, will get it for 3 months and then they’ll do another CT scan to see how he’s responded to treatment. He’ll get both oral and IV chemo. They aren’t planning any surgery at this point, because it would delay the chemo and the chances of infection or complication is too high with his liver function not normal.
We are praying that he will eventually go into remission, although his oncologist said this is not curable. My brother, my boys and I will fly to Boise to spend Thanksgiving with them. I’m planning other trips after that, but probably after the first of the year. And of course if my sister needs me, I’ll go anytime.
Thanks again for your support.
Love,
AmySueAndHerZooSeptember 28, 2013 at 9:34 amPost count: 439Thanks for the update, Amy….. it was very humbling and made me realize how silly and minor my issues are compared to what some people are dealing with.
But how are YOU feeling? Physically? Emotionally? Have you been and/or can you find the time to take care of yourself?
Sue
KimberlyOnline FacilitatorSeptember 30, 2013 at 5:08 pmPost count: 4294Hi Amy – Thanks for the update! As Sue noted, self-care is SO important, even though it’s easy to let slide during difficult times.
Please keep us posted…wishing you and your family all the best!
