If you are on the meds you list, you need to be careful with your heart. Check with your doctor on this one. You may be told to take it easy for now, but from what I know, all the runners have returned to running (sooner or later).

I know how you feel. It’s very frustrating to go from being an athlete to a GD patient. I was a bicycle racer until diagnosis in Sept. Luckily my endo is also an athlete and allows me to run slowly with strict instructions to pay attention to my body’s signals. That is, any heart pounding, rapid heart rate, etc, STOP. So now my new sport is slow running (9:30-10min miles). Granted, recovery isn’t what it used to be pre-GD–talk about muscle soreness!

If you’re used to running 6 min. miles, I imagine it will be very tough for you to go slow. Because we’re all individuals, I cannot stress enough to discuss this with your doctor. I’m lucky to have one that understands fitness and trusts me to listen to my body. And believe me, I listen carefully and do stop when necessary.

Hope that helps, and keep us posted.

I am sleeping at the craziest times. I am trying to walk when I was running 6 min miles for 8 miles and now too scared to run because do not want to do any damage.

What kind of damage will I do if running. On lots of meds, warfine, tapazole and ptu.

I know use a heart monitor to see what the beats per minute are when I get up or do any exercise. If it is ok I do walk. I was really looking forward to running a 2:30 marathon .. . in 18 months . . but that seems out of picture (though I still am planning for it).

Does any one know whether catching GD early helps recover early. The first time was after 4 to 6 months. This time I knew what to look for and it was within 2 months (jocks know when things are not “running” smoothly.)

I just heard this afternoon that attempts were made to reach me via email without a response. I have no idea why. But to make sure that emails to not get inadvertantly rejected, please put the word “Graves” somewhere in the subject heading. I will investigate further to see if I can determine why emails have not reached me, but at this point I am clueless.

And, if there are issues that need immediate attention, please try getting in touch with one of the other facilitators for the next two weeks. I will be on the road, and getting onto the internet can be problematic.

              Wishing you all good health.

Bobbi, I hope your being “on the road” includes travel to the Conference. I haven’t seen you in a few years and hope this is the one. Safe travels!
