The foods I can remember are spinach, pears, and chlorinated water.
As far as over the counter meds, please ask your pharmacist for his/
her help in this area. We have found ours to be very helpful. Hope
this helps you. Can anyone add to this?JAN

Why ? Is that when you are on Synthroid or when you are on T or PTU?
I asked my doctor about foods to avoid when on antithyroid drugs he said
he didn’t know of any.Is there a website that can tell me more about food and thyroid?

AnonymousFebruary 11, 1998 at 1:39 pmPost count: 93172The way I understand it is that certain foods lessen the absorbation of synthoid. I know there is a list of foods to avoid when on synthoid. Am I correct in this? Any one else know?

less effective? Or effect the thyroid?
AnonymousFebruary 11, 1998 at 10:21 pmPost count: 93172All right now I’m getting a little bit aggravated. People are confusing what you can take with your medicine vs. what you shouldn’t eat if you have Graves disease. My endo told me to avoid supplements loaded with Iodine and to avoid kelp. This has nothing to do with medication. Your body will react adversely to iodine in large amounts. However, I have not been able to find ANY information on foods to avoid if you have graves ANYWHERE. If someone has this info. please post it !!! In my own PERSONAL experience I have found I do much better if I avoid the following things:
-all forms of alcoholic beverages
-cheese
-whole wheat products and oatmeal
-protien drinks made with milk by products(whey).
-fried foods(give me heart palps)If I avoid all these things I feel much better but I have no proof that you shouldn’t eat them. I suspect that this would be different from individual to individual.
The bottom line is that if anyone has any medical information aboutn what you shouldn’t eat then please post it. It would be very interesting to see.Joe M.
