ABBY: I’m sorry you’re not feeling better on the Tapazole yet. It seems to take some people longer than others to feel better on it. I also think that some of us just don’t respond well to these drugs, and that has to be an individual call. The fatigue you are feeling could just be the Graves. I’d watch the achy, though. A small percentage of people get arthritis-like symptoms from the drug — it’s a side-effect, and could be an indication that Tapazole is not something you should be taking, long term.

EM: I’d be interested to know what you find out about the adrenal situation. I hope you are feeling better soon. I’ve noticed that it takes a good six weeks for my body to adjust to a dose change — My GP (who thank goodness isn’t treating me) thinks it takes nine months! Think how slowly SHE would move the meds!!

Silver: My mom (who has Graves) has the same problem you do — she cannot gain weight no matter what she eats. She had RAI over twenty years ago and is skeletally thin. The important thing though is that being this thin has not, in general, adversely affected her health. The only problem it has caused her in recent years is that her cholesteral got too high to suit the doctors, and they put her on a low-cholesteral diet. She lost so much weight they had a fit. Now, they’re letting her eat what she wants and are treating the cholesteral in other ways.

      Wishing all a good day.
