I too have pretibial myxedema with swelling of both legs. I have had it since 1992. I had trouble getting an initial diagnosis too. Now, with treatment (similar to Jodi’s) the swelling is mostly under control but my right foot still swells during the day some. After all these years, I can now use the steroid cream w/plastic wrap about 1 or 2 days in a row every 3 weeks. I recently started getting shots too, but my doctor only gives me 7 or 8 at a time and I do not find them painful at all. I do not watch while he injects though – I am a chicken. I am really hoping the steroid shots help the myxedema go away completely, but that’s probably wishful thinking after all these years. Carlene
