Betty, would appreciate more info on the surgery. I am not inclined to do the rai again, but my doc is pushing. Thanks.

    JOAnne,
I didn’t think you could have surgery after RAI. Can you?

Kitty, yes surgery is an option even after RAI. I know a gal with graves who had RAI three times and then had to have a second surgery on her thyroid. For myself I have decided that with all the waiting and fiddling with meds I might as well cut right to the bottom line to get regulated on snythroid. I haven’t felt good since March when I had the RAI and they keep changing my PTU dose even though my levels have barely budged. From what Betty wrote she is doing okay after surgery. I realize that nothing is instantaneous with this disease, but I am tired of waiting after six years. Besides my eyes have gone wacky after the RAI and they had finally become fairly stable. This was not a quick decision, but since I believe my disease was caused by radiation in the first place I don’t see any benefit in trying RAI again.
