Hi, I have a question for you all and would really appreciate any in-put. Feel free to e-mail me or post here. I have had GD for almost 2 years. Had the RAI and it took over a year to regulate my synthroid. For the last few months I have been feeling really good- finally! My energy is back and I feel pretty “normal” again. 2 weeks ago I got a real shock. A life long friend took his own life. All of us friends were stunned and have a whole range of feelings. I have really been down and now I am noticing that my energy level is way down and I’m getting symptoms again. I no longer feel good and am really dragging around once again. I believe this is due to the shock and stress of this sad event. Has anyone ever heard of a connection to GD and stress or emotional upheavel? I firmly believe this is what’s happened to me. Any comments out there? Thanks for your time! Trish

He had been sick with cancer for a few years but seemed to be getting along pretty well. I felt very helpless as my sister lived in the maritimes and I live in Ottawa and couldn’t be there for more than a brief visit at a time. I was extremely stressed and really began having trouble – sleeping, increased nervousness, irritability, real problems with my eyes ( the drive home 900 miles was not a treat). I assumed all of my symptoms were just stress until finally was diagnosed,so yes, there is a definate connection. I’m so sorry about your friend. Was he sick with an illness you didn’t know about, or very depressed? My sympathies to you. If you find you have trouble coping with your depression( which I am told can go along with GD) perhaps a mild anti-depressant might help. It did me. Good luck

Stress, severe stress is considered to be one of the major environmental triggers for GD. Of course the endogenous and genetic factors must also be present. Suggest you take great care of yourself over the next few months.
Good Luck
