Wanted to introduce myself. I am Patty, a 58 year old female with Graves. Seven months ago I became very ill and could not stop throwing up. I had to go by ambulance to the hospital and spent the next week or so in the hospital in pain and confusion. I had never expierienced anything close to this horrible feeling. The mental confusion alone was very very frightening. I had hallucinations for quite awhile. Very frightening. But if you are new to Grave don’t let me scare you. Each experience is different.
Now seven months have passed and I am living with Graves. I am doing alright. I will always have Graves and I have adjusted a lot. Or I should say I am still adjusting every day. You make the best of the life that is given to you while you try to do the things that will make you feel a little better each day.
Like any chronic illness there are setbacks both physically and mentally but yes you can adjust. You don’t have much choice really do you? <img decoding=” title=”Wink” />
I thought it might make me feel better to share some feelings and experiences with this group and perhaps I can share what I have learned about Graves, both good and bad. Sometimes I feel like I must have gotten a double dose of Graves and the depression can be bad at those times. But I do love life! We must because life is too short.

Just a quick note right now. WElcome! YOu will love this site. I suggest you use the wonderful search engine, browsing other posts, and simply reading all the posts that interest you on the current topics.
Tell us where you are now with Grave’s’, how do you feel, what symptoms do you have, are you seeing an endo. are you on ATD (anti thyroid drugs) have you decided which treatment you will have, ATD’s. RAI or surgery? All of this is addressed here, and you can read the experiences of others. Did they find you had Graves’ by labs when you were in the hospital? Do you, or they, associate Graves’ with the acute episode of vomiting and nausea? Did you hallucinate from drugs? Mental confusion can also occur when your electrolytes are way out of balance, as I am sure they were from your excessive vomiting until you got buffed up with IV fluids.

Have you read about Graves’? Do you understand it better now? Do you think you have had it a long time, undiagnosed?
See, you have lots more to write about!!! Again, tell more about your situation now.
    Welcome again,
    Shirley
