I agree with the point Gwen is making! EVERYBODY who has graves disease really needs to keep close tabs on their eyes. As soon as you are diagnosed with graves disease it is important to see a apecialist (opthamologist, thyroid eye disease specialist or neuro-opthamologist) for follow up care on your eyes. Almost everyone I come in contact with non -graves people too I emphasize the importance in getting their eyes checked. Without eye symptoms your eyes should be checked at least once a year. With symptoms your eyes should be followed very closely for potential damage that can occur. The NGDF can give you referrals to specialists in your area or another source is local hospitals that have a Doctor-network line of specialists. We take ouur sight for granted every day but should take care of our eyes just as we do the rest of our body.

Best of health, love and happiness,
      Dee

I am always amazed at how many on the BB let their Endocrinologist deal with their eye problems. An endo does not measure the eyes, check the cornea for dry spots or other problems, take cat-scans of the muscles behind the eyes or do surgery on the eyes. Some do know quit a bit about how Graves affects the eyes and know what course it usually takes, but they do not have the equipment for even a simple eye exam. Please anyone experiencing any eye problems go to an Ophthomologist. Or even better, if the problems are the beginings of double vision, lid retraction or bulging, see a specialist in Orbital dis-orders.And don’t be a wimp aboout getting a second or third opinion if your not satisfied with your treatment. A second opinion saved me years of potential problems with my eyes, thanks to good advise on the BB. I hope this can help someone too.***Gwen
