      Glynis,

one thing to remember about the blood pressure machines, they are not the best calibrated
things. I use the one at the grocercy store alot, but only as a sort of
guideline. It is usually off slightly and it also depends on if it is the
type that you sit at and it goes over your upper arm (which I can’y do, my
arms are too big) or the type you stand at and your lower arm goes in the
cuff (that is the kind that Tidyman’s has. It is also a scale, which is
usually 10 lbs off). Standing and sitting make a difference and also
how well the cuff fits and if you move around on the test. I wouldn’t
worry about one high pulse reading from the machine, esp if you’ve been
shopping (I know my pulse starts racing when I see those magic words “SALE,
      50% OFF”).

        Hi, Glynis!
I too have at times tussled with the machine at the local Meijers. Sometimes I get no pulse rate or reading at all from the machine, so consider the accuracy suspect…if you always use that machine, and this is out of your usuall range there, ask if they have serviced the machine recently. That could make the difference. I have found that on GOOD days when I have measured my heart rate, that I have had temporary high readings at times for no apparant reason, and still felt well. I wonder if it is just part of my new normal variables: as I get closer to my Novemeber PTU free day, I find that I get more used to the new norms of my GD body…and I look to my energy levels, aches, and pulse as my measuring sticks. My formerly high blood pressure has been consistently dropping since my diagnosis in August last year (wow, my year anniversary is here, boy what a roller-coaster…I certainly could never have believed that I would feel this GREAT in only one year!!!!) but I think that the BP dropping is due to the supplements I’ve worked out as being good for me, and the whole way I tackle my whole life now. As you know, Glynis, I have been wonderfully helped by you and my contemporaries and comrades here, and I just want to say to you, keep up your good work. I hope that your high readings are simply a fluke. Regards, from KarenB in MI Goodnight all, I just realized that I was posting at 1:45 AM just like in the bad old days…but this time I’m normal-tired from a long day at work, and a short stay on the computer.

Thanks everyone!! I guess I’ll just have to be wise and listen to some advice, take my pulse a couple of times a week and find out what my real resting pulse rate is.

I am one of those folks whose pulse goes up at the doctor (they’re always wanting to suck my blood but have a hard time getting it out…good reason for my pulse to go wild). When it read high, I had just found how the store planned to colossoly rip me off with the high price of the graph paper I absolutely needed for my daughter’s math.

KarenB, it’s SO good here that you might be getting off PTU in November. They are talking about trying to wean me off in September, my one year anniversary with the Disease from Hell. My birthday is October 11, I’ll be 34…maybe remission will be my birthday present!
