    Hi Darlene

I gained somewhere between 20-25 pounds during the time I was hyper. The irritating part was that I was trying to change my eating habits and lose weight by eating “healthier”, but looking back I think I was eating more & healthier. The other thing that I think played a big role was that I pretty much became a vegetable because I felt so crummy. The closest thing to exercise I was getting was walking out to get the mail. The good news is that once I picked up my activity level, the weight has started to come off–not all of it, yet, but at least I feel like I am making progress. You are not alone!

    Hi Darlene,
This crazy disease affects everyone differently. It is almost
a myth anymore to say that hyper people only lose weight. I
gained a lot of weight while hyper and know how you feel. By the
same token, being hypo does not necessarily mean that you will
gain weight. After my RAI while I was still on PTU, I went hypo
for about a week’s time and lost 10 pounds! My levels are finally
starting to stabilize (even though still slightly high 15 months
after RAI) and I am finally starting to lose. So you see, there
is hope. E-mail me if you want to “talk.”
