Hi Lesli – you are very very lucky. I know my Doctors are excellent and give me the best care but they do not take the time to talk to me about how I feel. A lot of my being able to understand this disease has come from the BB and some home pages that were referred to me. One time I had three doctors standing around discussing me and the next procedure they might try as if I wasn’t even the room. I actually burst out crying. I was waiting to get results of a biopsy for breast cancer and felt I just couldn’t take any more. It is an excellent clinic I go to but the wait is so long for your appointment that by the time I get in I am so angry and upset about missing more work than I thought I would that my attitude is not the best. To have a Doctor actually say he/she understands and talk about it to you – as I say you are very lucky. Hope things are going OK for you. SAS

Hi, Terch, and welcome. I think the problem you are dealing with is that most doctors haven’t got a whole lot of experience or knowledge about depression. There are distinct groups of drugs, for example, that can cause depression in otherwise normal individuals, there is a physiological basis for some of it, and your endo may simply not be up-to-date on that specific information. I would definitely recommend you consult with a good psychiatrist. In our wonderful age of specialty doctors, psychiatrists are the ones who best understand the relationship between chemical imbalances in the body, and depression. I have a touch of osteoarthritis in my back that plagues me infrequently. The medicine of choice these days for treatment of the pain is one of the non-steroidal anti-inflammatories (ibuprofin is an example of this). But many of these drugs make me very depressed. It is like being given a massive attack of PMS (which you, as a male, have probably only experienced on the receiving end ). When I mentioned this to my regular doctors, they flat out told me they had never heard of this happening. Yet a psychiatrist I know immediately took out one of his TEXTS, opened it to the appropriate page, and there, on a list of drugs which can cause depression, were these drugs. So you might get better, and quicker, help with this problem if you add yet another doctor to your mix, and get them to talk to one another about treatment options.

        Good luck.

        Bobbi
