    Kathleen,
I am wondering why you had only a partial thyroidectomy? I am scheduled to have a complete thyroidectomy Aug. 1. I am nervous because I’ve never had surgery before. I was wondering about your recovery time. When did you feel normal again? And why was RAI not an option?

    Taskit,
Thank you for your imput. I have seen the scar on people who have had surgery and it is a fine white line that they usually place in a crease in your neck. That is really the least of our concerns. Something to consider if your RAI doesn’t take. My main fear is infertility or possible damage to my future family. This is why I have chosen surgery. The date is next week so I would appreciate any thoughts and prayers. Thank you,

    Emily,
RAI was not considered a good option in my case because I have a
hearing impairment and my endo believed that RAI may have made my
eyes worse. I need my eyes to be my ears as well, as I lip read!!

I had an experienced surgeon, I was fine in a couple of days, but
I was not monitored properly for hypo symptoms in the following
months and now know I should may be have had earlier supplement of
thryoid hormone and a more understanding endo!!

It was called a partial thryoidectomy because they wanted to leave
some of the thyroid there in the hope it would function enough so
that I wouldn’t need replacement hormone.

I have a fine scar – and although I was worried about having a scar
this doesn’t bother me and no one ever notices it. Feel free to email
    me about this. Good luck.

    Kathleen.
