Hello. First I want to wish you luck with your RAI on Monday. I had RAI done approximately 4 months after I was diagnosed with GD (Feb. 2000). My father who was diagnosed with GD, now 27 years ago, right away told me to do the RAI, but I chose to try PTU. PTU did not make me feel well at all, actually my thryoid was growing while on PTU. This is when I decided to do the RAI. Today I can honestly say I am feeling great!!!! RAI was the choice for me. Reading the BB I have noticed the number of people who have chosen surgery, that was never an option given to me. I was never afraid of doing the RAI..at the beginning I wanted to give PTU a chance to help me, but when that failed I never thought twice about doing RAI. I had it done on Friday and was back to work on Monday. I work as a Medical Laboratory Technician and and X-ray Technician.
I am not going to tell you not to worry or not to be afraid, because I think with our disease we have the right to worry and be afraid.
I just wanted to let you know that RAI went well for me and it worked for me. I started to take levoxyl (synthyroid) in December of 2000.
Best of luck!
Take care.
Sandi
