I think it may be different for each of us in how we react to steroids–at least in degree. I was on prednisone for two and 1/2 years and gained a total of five pounds; I realize I was fortunate. But I did have some gastric discomfort for which my doctor prescribed one of the prescription drugs that are commonly used for this–and it worked.
I also know some people do not seem to respond to prednisone as to its POSITIVE effects like I did. Quite frankly, it saved my eyesight as I had developed severe chemosis and was on the verge of losing my right eye. So I will always be grateful to the opthalmologist who put me on prednisone.
