      Barb:

I wish! I keep hearing that once your thyroid levels stabilize the weight comes right off. I will believe it when I see it—I’m not holding my breath on this one. Feel like Jabba the Hut ever since RAI and HATE IT!!!

To Luci and Aurora, et. al:

There is apparently no predictability about weight gain after RAI. Like every other part of this disease, some folks have a big problem with it, and others don’t. My mom is at the other end of the problem, having steadily LOST weight after RAI. She could not gain weight if you had her eating non-stop at smorgasbords. She fights for every single ounce. A typical breakfast includes bacon and eggs AND pancakes with syrup. I’ll stop. It’s all too painful to watch, much less describe. She weighs 95 pounds (she’s 5’7″). Her doctors cannot understand it. Just like they cannot seem to understand those people who cannot take the weight off. I’m also sure that there are a lot of folks in the middle ground, whose weight normalizes appropriately. It’s another maddening mystery.

I recently read a medical article about various thyroid problems and believe it or not – it mentioned the problem of weight gain said it is extremely difficult to loose. I couldn’t believe what I read, someone actually not blaming a person for their weight gain and inability to take it off. I weight more now than I have in 20 years and I really don’t think I’ll loose it this time. I’m trying to learn to accept it. It’s kinda funny, when I was in school I was overweight and wished I could have blamed it on something like “my thyroid,” (stupid, huh) now that it is my thyroid and I really can’t do anything about it – I wish, wish, wish it wasn’t so. I guess I’m forced to practice what I preach and that is looks really don’t matter, (I still wish I was skinny, Ha Ha).
