There is apparently no predictability about weight gain after RAI. Like every other part of this disease, some folks have a big problem with it, and others don’t. My mom is at the other end of the problem, having steadily LOST weight after RAI. She could not gain weight if you had her eating non-stop at smorgasbords. She fights for every single ounce. A typical breakfast includes bacon and eggs AND pancakes with syrup. I’ll stop. It’s all too painful to watch, much less describe. She weighs 95 pounds (she’s 5’7″). Her doctors cannot understand it. Just like they cannot seem to understand those people who cannot take the weight off. I’m also sure that there are a lot of folks in the middle ground, whose weight normalizes appropriately. It’s another maddening mystery.
