John,
Prior to my second dose of RAI, I was taking .050.
They did a radioactive iodine uptake. My TSH was 0.17.
They did alot of other blood work and then they recommended
the second treatment.Dave

Thanks much for your response.
How low did you go on dosage before you had the RAI?John
AnonymousNovember 20, 1996 at 3:10 pmPost count: 93172I had RAI one and a half years ago. I started at a dosage of .175mg
and have slowly gone down in dosage to .025mg. Anyone out there who
has had such a variation over so long a time period?John
AnonymousNovember 20, 1996 at 6:37 pmPost count: 93172Hi John! It’s been over six years since I had the RAI treatment, and since then my hormone replacement dosage has changed several times. I’ve been as high as .175 mg to as low as .1mg. It seems each time I have my TSH checked lately my doctor adjusts the dosage.
It’s my understanding that it takes many years for the thyroid to completely adjust to the treatment. It was about four years after RAI that my endo said that my thyroid gland was gone and that my dosage would have to be closely watched to regulate it accurately.
So, maybe your thyroid is still in the adjustment stages. Correct me if I’m wrong, anyone!

AnonymousNovember 20, 1996 at 10:39 pmPost count: 93172John- I had RAI twice. I started out on a very low dosage, and now I am
up to .125. This is where I have been since about June. It takes a while
and a lot of adjustment to get used to all those varying dosage, but I can
relate to you on the varying dosage. it certainly is not fun!

Thanks for your response. Could you tell me your experiences leading
up to your second RAI. How rapidly did you vary dosage until the second
RAI? How low down in dosage did you go before the second RAI? How much
time between the first and second RAI? On what basis did your doc suggest
a second RAI?John
