      Serio,
Ellie is correct. I work in the ER. When my patients are x-rayed at the bedside, I step out of the room…or if they are critical, put on a lead apron and stay with them ( the apron not because I would glow the one time , but because it is known that ACCUMULATED radiation exposure is unsafe ) . NOW, I use a lead thyroid piece which snaps around the neck. Interestingly enough, I had never used this device until last month ( didn’t know they made ’em ). I have exposed my thyroid to radiation a zillion times in 14.6 years UNWITTINGLY. Hmmm.

        Serio,
The amount of radiation you would give off to others would be if you came withing “hugging” distance of them, and it would be like giving them a “dental x-ray”. Very minimal….the point is…if they don’t need the dental x-ray…why subject them to it? That why you maintain your distance, etc. from them. If you need an x-ray, you get one, to diagnose a broken arm, diseased tooth, etc.

Hope this helps a little bit.

        Hugs,
        Ellie
