I can relate also when it feels like you are loosing your mind. There are times when my TSH levels are not in normal range that my short term memory seems so bad, I have found my self putting things in the freezer that should not be there. I seem to loose my keys every morning when it is time to go to work, so my apartment gets torn up just about every morning looking for them. It is amazing of how the thyroid has so much control over your body. I am so glad to have found this web site, it is good to know that there are others in the world that can relate to what you are going through and it good to have someone to talk to when things seems bad or good.

Hi Julie,
We are about the same in the 5-week post RAI club. Is your goiter caused by Graves? I still have some symptoms but they are more hyper than hypo still. However, my hyper is not caused be Graves. It is caused by Plummer’s Disease. Anyway, my understanding is that RAI can take up to 6-months to have its full effect. I hope your feeling better soon.
My experience?
I avoided iodine rich foods the week prior to my RAI and followed a normal diet there after. If I wanted sea food I ate it. I did however become allergic this year to shell fish. Nine years after RAI and now I become allergic to shell fish.
Go figure… But over the years I ate my fill of them so I guess it works out Okay in the cosmic book of fairness. OK jesting a bit but I hate liver so when I think of King Crab Legs I see a plate of liver and I don’t crave it quite as much. Works for me.
As for the steroids? YOur answer was the best. Ask your doctor. Swelling eyes? Hard to tell. Sleep Okay last night? Eat a lot of salty foods? Could be a number of things. There is a temporary worsening in a small percentage of people but not usually in the first night.
Let us know how you are progressing.
We are only a click away.
