Hi, Dale:
By my figuring, you have been on the Tapazole for about five months now, and it seems to me that you should be feeling significantly better than you are reporting. While some fluctuation in how you feel may be normal, if you are still feeling overall lousy, then maybe the Tapazole just isn’t working well for you. Have you asked your doctor about trying PTU instead? It isn’t as convenient as the Tapazole, because it has a much shorter action life (something like six to eight hours), so you have to take it several times a day, on a fairly rigid schedule. It also has a bitter flavor for a lot of us. But it might be easier to regulate the proper dosage. It comes only in 50 mg sized pills, so the dose can be incrementally changed in a way that may not be as easy to accomplish with the Tapazole. It is also different chemically from the Tapazole, although it does the same thing–interfere with thyroid hormone production. Perhaps your body would react better to it? I don’t really know. But it may be something to keep in mind to ask your doctor.
