    Hi Kelly,
I had a very good experience with PTU. As a matter of fact I toke it during pregnancy, since I found out that I was pregnant 2 weeks after I started treatment. It is a safe treatment during pregnacy since it barely crosses the placenta. The hard part for me was its taste. It would remain in my mouth for several hours after each dose. Probably it was one of those funny things that only happen while pregnant.
During pregnacy, I saw my endo and had blood work done every month. The dose was lowered on 2 occasions during those 9 months. Why does your doctor recommend a thyroidectomy? I did stopped taking PTU once the baby was born so I could breastfeed her. Luckily, my bloodwork came normal every month while breastfeeding and I have been within a normal range since then. My daughter is now almost 5 years old and always very healthy. I am also wondering what would happen if we decided to get pregnant again. The part that worries me the most is not having enough energy to keep up with my older children, now 7 and 4, during pregnancy and after the baby is born. I am 37 so my energy levels are not as high as they use to be. On top of that, my kids love to sing up with all the childres activities and sports available. Goode luck to you. Please write me if I can help.
    Denise E.
