Now I remember how I accessed the chat room. It happened on a Wendesday because of the “chat schedule” in the previous page. I clicked on the “java chat” and then got to the java page which got me into the Graves channel. Then I bookmarked it. It might work for you??? Good luck

My explanation was incomplete. I meant to add, ” first click on the “chat schedule”. It will lead you to the page which has “java”. Then click on “java”. Lo and behold, and type in your necessary info in the boxes, and you will get there. I have tried it and it worked at least for me. If not, I’ll tie my hands…

Belinda, I tried that bookmark and followed it up to the chat screen but it still didn’t work. Casey, I also e-mailed the admin. last week or before and no response. I also have a powermac and downloaded the Netscape Navig. v3. Maybe its both the Mac and Java chat that’s not working for us? Its too bad, when they recommended us to use it. Casey, how about trying to download MIRC? This is the site (I hope its correct) http://www.support-group.com/irc/index.htm.I just spent more than an hour going from page to page figuring out how to use this MIRC. I went to dowload it. I found out I already had it. I had trouble using this before, little complicated for me with the windows and instructions(Difficult adjusting to new things too). I’m not computer savvy either. Anyways just when I thought I was finally going to connect with chat after all the work I did there was a message saying I hven’t registered yet. How frustrating! The trial period already passed so I need to send in the $15 before I can use it again. And I had a question for anyone: I read somewhere (I don’t remember) that Macintosh users can’t use MIRC–is that true?
Patience, patience, patience…AnonymousDecember 5, 2000 at 12:19 pmPost count: 93172I understand how the rai is supposed to work. However, when it has done it’s job, my question relates to the part of the thyroid that is left still functioning after rai. If the gland is diseased in graves, and overproduces, why won’t the part not destroyed still stay unpredictable and overproduce. It sounds like it would be hard to regulate hormone replacement if the part of the gland left emits more one day and not the next.
Any takers on this question?
AnonymousDecember 5, 2000 at 5:35 pmPost count: 93172Hi cgd,
Let me start by saying that *I am not a doctor*!
The first thing is that our thyroids themselves are not diseased. Our bodies have developed antibodies TO our thyroids, which attack the thyroid as if it is foreign tissue, and this forces the thyroid gland to overproduce thyroid hormone. Eventually, this process *will* destroy our thyroids. The trick is to bring the hormone levels within the body to a normal range so that the hyperthyroidism does not kill us before our thyroids die and we go hypothyroid.
Yes, the antibodies still exist after RAI. Here’s the thing — the RAI is intended to destroy enough thyroid tissue so that, no matter what happens with the rest of the thyroid, we will be either euthyroid or hypothyroid, then we continue to have blood tests every so often to determine whether more thyroid tissue has died, replacing thyroid hormone with synthetic hormone when it is necessary.
Bottom line, the thyroid tissue continues to be destroyed by the Graves’ with or without RAI. RAI makes some of the process happen quicker to bring you to levels that can be controlled by your meds. Some doctors give a large enough dose to completely destroy the thyroid, some do not. I had RAI in April ’99 and still have not gone hypo. I haven’t gone hyper again either.
Good luck in figuring it all out! It’s a really big subject to get your arms around — keep reading, get the books, read the board.
