I received in the mail last week a package with a brochure called ‘Concerned about your Thyroid?’ It explains about thyroid disease and has a list called “Do you currently have any of these symptoms” listing 28 including eye symptoms. It also asks many other questions and on the front says … a few minutes spent with this brochure may change your life. It also includes stamped, addressed cards to a well known Endo, for the GP to fill out answering questions “About your patient interview” and to the patient answering questions “About your visit to the doctor”. It is suggested that I pass the enclosed package onto anyone that I feel may benefit from this.
I feel this is really getting the word out about how Thyroid Disease is affecting Canadians and how important it is to be tested. It says “Left untreated thyroid dysfunction can lead to serious health problems, including cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, anxiety and depression. Early diagnosis is important.
Also enclosed is a notification of a free public education program on the topic of “How thyroid disease can affect your eyes”. this will be held next week in my area. Even tho the speaker is my Endo and I am quite up to date on all the information I will attend to support the Foundation.
On the back of the brochure it says “This Thyroid Assessment Questionnaire has been designed by the Thyroid Foundation of Canada. Funding for this publication was provided by Health Canada. The opinions expressed in this publication are those of the authors and contributors and do not necessarily reflect the official views of Health Canada.
I, for one, am especially pleased that the Foundation is doing such good work to make people aware of this disease. I am going to pass this information on, especially to members of my family. As I have said before I think information in print makes more of an impact than just telling someone.
To all you Canadians out there, if you do not belong, I suggest you join the Thyroid Foundation of Canada. Their link is attached to this BB.
Have a good day and take care, SAS
