Hi Val:
I don’t know if this will help you or not, but I (and now my whole family swears by it). It’s an herb called Echinacea (combined with another herb called Golden Seal). You can usually get it now at the grocery store for about $10.00 (on sale for about $5.00 to $7.00). Anytime I have symptoms of the flu I take that and within a day it clears right up.
Good luck!!!

AnonymousDecember 16, 1997 at 3:38 pmPost count: 93172Just another side to this issue. I have Graves, my mom has Graves, and neither one of us have ever used artificial sweeteners. I have tasted food with them in it, a couple of times, but loathed the taste. I would be interested in seeing the research from Hopkins on this. It’s kind of intriguing. But off hand, I’m not sure I put much stock in it.

I saw a report on 60 Minutes that did discuss legitimate studies on the issue of the toxic reactions caused by asparatame. Not by fly-by-night researchers, but by reputable facilities such as John Hopkins. They have file cabinets chock full of information and also documentation that this evidence was supressed by the FDA as a result of financial pressure by the manufacturer. I’m sure that transcripts of this episode as well as a bibliography of information discussed are available from CBS. This is at least the 2nd episode on the evils of aspartame since its approval by the FDA. Now, I do not recall hyperthyroidism being mentioned specifically but there was enough evidence to turn ones stomach.
