I’ve been noticing some posts about menopause lately. If I had not been in remission from Graves when I was going through Perimenopause, the earliest phase of menopause, I would have blamed every symptom on Graves.

I got a wonderful book which helped me through this phase of my life called The Silent Passage by Gail Sheehy – (not to be confused with her earlier book Passages). Here is a brief quote “And now, at the dignified apex of one’s adulthood, to have to worry about being hit with surprise periods, hot flashes, night sweats, insomnia, incontinence, sudden bouts of waistline bloat, heart palpitations, crying for no reason, temper outbursts, migraines, itchy, crawly skin, memory lapses – my God, what’s going on? It is during perimenopause – in their forties – that women feel most estranged from their bodies. The important thing to know is that for two to three years the female body is out of sync with its own chemistry.”

A lot of the same symptoms huh. I don’t even know how Endos tell what is really happening in our bodies. I guess it’s the luck of having Graves disease and being a woman in their forties at the same time.

Of course this is just general info because as we all know each of our bodies react differently to both Graves and Menopause.

Have a good day – SAS
