Well, I am 46 – wish I hadn’t had a period for 2 years – but instead is having spotting and longer periods. I have been blaming this on menopause….my gyn says it won’t happen for another 5 years. I’d hate to know what my calcium count is – did you have the x-ray for bone density? If I were to judge it by my teeth – it wouldn’t be a pretty picture~~~!

I prefer not to use my name here but hope you’ll understand. I had very short, light periods about 6 mos to a year before being diagnosed with Graves’. My gyn brushed it off when I expressed concern and said it was common to have menstrual changes with age. I was only 31. Later, after RAI treatment and at the very beginning of seriou eye involvement, I was dating a man who gave me genital warts (HPV), a viral condition. I went for treatment and stopped seeing him also. It took me four years and 15 laser surgeries, 2 excisions and a course of interferon injections to get rid of ONE wart that wouldn’t go away. I also developed genital herpes during the time period when I was not sexually active. I have not had a sexual relationship with anyone since 1994 when I was diagnosed with the warts. Herpes is also a viral condition. Both are completely out of the picture now that my body has stabilized, my eyes have stabilized and I am generally back to normal. My immune system, I believe, was severely compromised with Graves’ which made it easy for me to be susceptible to these things. It was degrading and painful. I was having gyn surgeries in between eye surgeries for several years. I believe firmly that it is all related.
