Lori:
It took about 14 weeks after starting PTU for me to really get past the ups and downs. Still during the later 1/2 of my cycle it would seem to come back, but that turned out to be progesterone deficiency (with very similar symptoms).
I felt like a loon half the time. Had panic attacks, days of general anxiety…ugh!!! It does get better, really, it does. The heat intolerance seems to take the longest and I’m still not sure if that totally goes away.
The hair stops falling out when your blood levels get normalized for a little while. Then you have all kinds of nice stubbly new hairs all over your head. My hair came back curlier, but with greys.

I’m sorry you are feeling so crumby. The “yo-yo” is tough to endure, I know. The PTU made me feel awful, also. But I didn’t hang in there with it like Glynis did. After two months or so of it, I had had enough already, and opted for RAI. She may be right — that it just takes more time for some of us than others to regulate on it. Just a couple of odd thoughts — are you taking it religiously on schedule? PTU has a very short action frame, so it is very important that you take it at VERY even intervals. I.e. if you are taking it three times a day, that has to be every eight hours (I think that is the extent of its action, too). Or if you are taking it four times a day, then the doses should be six hours apart. It’s a nuisance, but if you are not doing this, you might try it and see if it helps. Also, and this is just generally good for you — make sure you are drinking enough water. Doctors and exercise physiologists got on my case because I wasn’t drinking enough water. I was getting lots of fluids (coffee, iced tea, water), but not enough plain water. When I began to just drink water more frequently during the day, trying to get those recommended 32 ounces in, my body began to function better overall.
Hope you are feeling better soon.

AnonymousAugust 10, 1997 at 9:20 pmPost count: 93172I relate very well. When does the hair stop falling out? If you get
an answer please let me know. Did you read the 5 top reasons for loving
GD? It is very relative. Make sure you don’t eat any sugar before going
to bed. It keeps me awake and definitely no caffeine after 5. I don’t
have any major answers I can only say I relate and if you wish to e-mail
me feel free. Take care. Hope you feel better soon.AnonymousAugust 11, 1997 at 2:05 amPost count: 93172Thank you guys so much for responding…Bobbi, Glynis and Jalee..
The med’s I always take… everyday same time… my endo has me take them all at once… I’m thankful… for that… only have to have that yucky taste once a day..And I think I need to try the water… I’m sure I dont drink enough of that… And I’ll ask the doc about taking the med’s at different times.. maybe that would help..
Thanks so much you guys… Lori -
