Thanks for your response. My young friend is beside herself – family not very supportive since they don’t understand GD and all the things that start happening – all at once! Tonight she called and said she is now broken out in a ‘heat rash’ type rash – face, everywhere and it is driving her nuts. Our endo’s nurse practictioner gave her Prozac last Fri at appt (I assume w/dr. approval) so she could come down off the ceiling – since she’s taking that don’t think she should take anti-hist. for itching. We’re trying to find another endo since our’s didn’t see fit to see her at appt Fri – I find it unbelievable that the drs. are so ignorant of the many facets of Grave’s Disease. They only make our stress level higher. Think NGDF is on the right track when they encourage education, not only for all of us but for the medical profession, most especially endos. So many people on this BB complain of lack of understanding from their drs. Thanks for sharing! Jann

I don’t know anything about the salt cravings other than it is a symptoms and can drive you crazy. I wanted to comment on something else you mentioned – I am currently on Prozac as well – my doctor’s reason for choosing this drug was because it was the most widely tested on females my age (22) so they know the most about its affects on me. Also, I don’t think the Prozac is aiding in sleep, as I very rarely sleep more than 3 hours a night.

Boy can I relate to the craving salt!! I just posted a couple of weeks ago about my salt cravings. Mine got really bad – to the point where my mouth and tongue tasted like salt (I guess because I ate so much of it). Anyhow, my ankles swelled, I’m assuming due to fluid retention from all the salt, and I cut back on my intake. Tell your friend she’s not alone! I was hyperthyroid and switched my salt shaker to iodine free salt. (Now hypothyroid due to ATD’s.)
