I don’t exactly understand the chlorine cautions and the link, but
I had read about it too. I had also been told by a health clinic to get rid of chlorine cleansers in my house. I still have them, but I am more cuatious.
I guess I was also reading about iodine
and chlorine showing up together. But here is how I see it:
You are on antithyroid, right? and it is bascially doing its job,
right? Now you probably shouldn’t become an olympic swimmer
where every day you have to go in the pool…but for a short vacation
you should enjoy the water. also get that stuff mentioned in a previous post..to
wash off. The health clinic told me don’t even shower in city(chlorinated
water). I think we have to do what we can and then it just gets crazy. So
don’t sweat the little stuff. Make the major effort most of the time and then
enjoy the exceptions. It is always a “benefits vesus burdens” type
weighing we have to do. Clearly you are willing to find out what you
can do to help get yourself better…and that goes a long way in and of itself. Take care and have a real vacation.
Don’t under estimate the power of relaxing and forgetting about your troubles!!
Jeannette.

FYI, i also took her in the summer at the same place but before I started the meds and did not have any issues.

Chlorine levels change hourly so if they aren’t properly monitered they can easily be too strong one day and not strong enough another. When you go in, ask the pool when the levels were last checked or ask for them to be checked again right then (a 5min test).

I have had graves for 4 years, had RAI, and most recently on Synthroid.
The past 2 out of 4 times I went swimming, I have broke out in a welt-looking skin condition. Overall skin is bright pink with red, raised welts and spread from the inner thigh and inner elbow area. I suppose it is a skin reaction to some chemical in pool and/or jacuzzi. Ventilation in pool areas are important, I think, and the pools I was in had good ventilation so I didn’t notice lung stuff. My welts disappear within 1 hour after showering in plain water…as long as I don’t itch.
I think it is important to monitor our bodies’ reactions and update our docs as needed.
That’s my 2 cents worth…Good luck on your journey!
