So is the conjunctiva the white part of your eye? You can loose your vision from an accumulation of fluid in that part of the eyes?
AnonymousMarch 4, 1998 at 5:43 amPost count: 93172Lisa,
My understanding is that it is fluid accumulating in the conjunctiva of the eye–which is what I had, according to my Optho. It was not particularly easy to deal with, but in my case once they decided to put me on prednisone, it dissipated within a matter of days.
Good night and good health.

I know it sounds odd, but if you get ENOUGH fluid in the eye, you could lose it. In my case they would hav wound up doing surgery on this if the prednisone had not worked.
Take care, Lisa.
AnonymousMarch 9, 1998 at 9:54 pmPost count: 93172I had eye radiation in Dec, now I have chemosis. Does anyone know why this happens, if it will go away, or what can be done about it? It can really bother me at times. My opthal doesnt seem concerned about it, as its just in the corners of my eyes.
AnonymousMarch 10, 1998 at 11:40 amPost count: 93172I also had radiation treatments in December. What is chemosis?
My eyes turned really really red after the last treatment, and really watery – they just poured out tears. Also I couldn’t be near bright lights or in the sun – I actually had to wear sunglasses while I was at work on the computer.
Anyway, if any of this is “chemosis”, it finally went away after about 2 weeks.

the eye which the fat pushes the eye forward and this jelly like substance
appears on the eye usually in the corners. I have it mine comes and
goes its been doing this for 2 years. Does it eventually go away I don’t
know I hope so.(Jake is this a fairly decent description?).

The membrane covering the white part of the eyeball is filled with fluid, presumably to compensate for the dryness on the outside of the membrane. It appears like a jelly-like substance is in the eye. The best treatment is using eyedrops and ointments faithfully.

AnonymousMarch 12, 1998 at 3:46 pmPost count: 93172Last year when I had the chemosis so bad and even posted here calling it by the wrong name, dah, I could not find a thing about it on the net.
So the web site you posted really caught my attention. My chemosis also looked like contact lenes. The doctors never seemed to concerned about it. I was really concerned. My chemosis went away after I got my new eye lids. The eye pain went away too.Thank you Dianne N. for sharing the web site you found.

AnonymousJune 1, 1998 at 2:51 pmPost count: 93172In the past I have seen some discussion on “chemosis”?.
Exactly what is it and what causes it? What can be done
to make it go away?. I think that I may have it. Keep getting
something like a oily film on one eye, have to keep rubbing
my eye to see clearer.AnonymousJune 2, 1998 at 12:34 pmPost count: 93172need information regarding this subject.
Is it the same as opthalmopathy????
I understand that whatever damage we get while Graves’ is active (in our eyes i mean) can never be fixed.AnonymousFebruary 2, 1999 at 11:31 amPost count: 93172Lisa, I don’t know anything firsthand about these two surgeries as I have not had them. There are several people who have home pages you can access through the NGDF home page (I can access them from the bb page)and who have had these surgeries. Also a good bet is to back and read old posts. Almost verything brought up now has been discussed before. I had printed a post from Jake from 9/5/96 on the various eye surgeries. Perhaps some people on the bb who have had these surgeries can give you a more definitive answer. In my case the doctor and I agree that it may be best to leave my eyes alone for a while as they’ve had a rough couple of years. I admit I waver between wanting my face back and not wanting to upset the applecart.
