Karen B and Others:
As long as you are hyper the following are guidlines I’ve been following and have noticed improvement. When I break a rule, my body lets me know!
Remove stress from your life, introduce a daily afternoon nap and have a full night’s sleep every night. (easier said than done, I know)
Cut out smoking, caffeine, stimulants.
Remove Iodine containing foods from the diet (kelp, iodized salt, sea salt, biosalt, Japanese seaweed, basically anything from the ocean)
Eat small meals frequently. Make sure your diet has more calories and protein to make up for the higher metabolic “burn” rate if your thyroid is overactive.
Drink lots and lots of water. Ideally filtered water (a reverse osmosis is best) This helps the lymphatic system, liver and kidneys get rid of the waste in your body.
Listen to your body, it has an amazing ability to tell you what it needs.
So to answer your questions, Karen B: Yes it is wise to avoid dietary iodine as long as you are combating a hyper thyroid. By eating iodine you are feeding it what it needs to produce the hormones that are making you sick. Check this out with a pharmasist or your endo. I’m not a doctor but it is what I’ve come to understand.
As far as the libido goes, My boyfriend would complain regardless so in my case it hasn’t mattered. teehee.
Happy eating, sleeping, drinking and whatever……
