Hi – and welcome to the board.
Scott, I think consulting with an endocrinologist is a really good idea. If you can find an Endo who specializes in thyroid all the better. I know there are people on this BB who have been subclinically hypo — the numbers looked normal, but the symptoms were not. I can imagine that it could go the other way around as well.
At any rate, good luck to you — I know what anxiety feels like (most of us here do) and it’s no fun. You might want to do a search on anxiety or panic attacks on the posts and then you can read posts specifically on that subject.
Take care. Sarah

I told the receptionist that I felt I could not wait that long because I was having some extreme symptoms. But that is all that is available. So, called my GP and his next opening is a week after that! I am currently taking no medication and the last month I have had anxiety, heart palpitations, feeling like I can’t breathe, brain fog and on and on. I fell apart this morning when I could not get in to anyone sooner. I feel like I cannot go another day with these feelings. I have called my GP again and asked if he could return my call. Has anyone gone into emergency just to get someone to see you?
Sorry this sounds crazy but I know that you have felt this too. Thanks for listening.AnonymousSeptember 29, 2003 at 3:33 pmPost count: 93172I would recommend calling the GP back. When the receptionist tells you that you have to wait three weeks to see the doctor (or four, or whatever it is), ask her what her medical degree is, and what basis she has for making a medical decision without seeing you. She will have none, most likely, and will try to tell you that she is not making any medical decisions. But she IS making one by deciding that you can, in fact, wait that long before seeing the doctor. Our medical system is a mess, and getting worse all the time, but there usually is some mechanism by which patients who are seriously ill CAN be seen by the doctor during the day.
Emergency rooms are appropriate if you suspect that you are going into thyroid storm. But there may also be something called “urgent care” in your community, which is like a middle ground between the emergency room and the doctor’s office. These are open around me, typically, after doctors’ hours. You might look one of those places up.
One of the three should work to get you seen sooner than the 16th, I hope. Wishing you luck,
