      Sorry,
I forgot to add any thyroid replacement drugs pre or post RAI or surgery:)

I was diagnosed w/ Graves 12/98 and had been doing well on Tapazole, but went out west (to Jackson Hole, Wyoming from Chicago, IL – a pretty significant change in altitude) and saw a pretty extreme worsening of my hyper-symptoms (I actually ended up hunting down an MD at my doc’s recommendation – white count was fine, thyroid levels were elevated) Here’s the question, none of the docs I’ve spoken with seem to have any real input re: how the altitude may have affected how I was feeling. I’m back in Chicago now and in the process of blood testing to see where my levels are and what Tapazole dosage I should be at and I would think that the altitude question could have bearing on how we proceed. Has anyone had any experience with this?

Interesting question, Debbi! When Jake and I went out to Colorado a couple years ago, Jake ended up in emergency when we returned home!
I now wonder if it was the altitude difference that made it necessary to take him to the er? Anyone?

          Wishing you wellness,
          JAN

I was on thyroid supressing medication when I moved from England to the highveld of South Africa. It was a significant altitude change. Within about ten hours of being in SA, I had palpitations, dizziness and was worried I was having a heart attack. I was also on Inderal.

I had just moved there and had no doctor. I suffered through this and after about 5 days, the symptoms dissipated. I may have been suffering altitude sickenss and that affected me psyciologically.

I do not know if anything can be done about it. If you are traveling again, it would be good to research this because I have also experienced it and you may well again.
