    Hi Shannon,

    The example of quitting smoking was a really lousy one that I wish I hadn’t used, as it obviously doesn’t demonstrate my point. I didn’t ever mean to take away from the positive value of the poem you shared, but I truly do think a lot of what it says can stand examination. I’ll keep any further comments on this in emails if anyone wants to discuss it more.

    I never thought that this verse would be viewed in different ways,
    I personally never looked at it as a motivation to keep smoking,
    To me it signifies the strength of the human spirit to overcome life’s
    adversities.
