I am having a very difficult time deciding on which treatment option to go with. My doctor recommended RAI, but I do not feel comfortable with it at all. The reason he recommended RAI is because I was planning on starting a family in the near future. He said it would be alot easier to deal with the hormone replacements than the medication during pregnancy. At this point, I do not have severe symptoms, and wonder if i should wait on becoming pregnant, take the medication for 2 years and hope for the best.

Any comments, suggestions would be appreciated.

I too am contemplating pregancy in the near future. I chose surgery to treat my Graves because my endo told me that if I chose RAI I’d have to wait 1 – 1 1/2 years to get pregnant. He said that because of the radiation in the pill, and then the wait for it to ablate the thyroid, and then the adjustment to synthroid, it could take a long time. Then there is always the possibility of needing a second dose of RAI. I’m going to be 30 in a few months and I don’t want to wait much longer to have my second child. These were my thoughts @ treatment. I also did the meds for awhile but they just didn’t agree with me.
