Hi, Marc:
I’ve got the pretibial myxedema, and have been seeing a dermatologist for six months about it. She xeroxed a few pages from a medical text for me on the topic. (I do love it when doctors try to INFORM patients thoroughly.) The only treatment I’ve had, or discovered in my research, is the application of topical cortisone ointments twice a day. The only slight variation I’ve seen about treatment is that some references suggest applying the ointment and then covering the area with an “occlusive” bandage — whatever that is. My dermatologist hasn’t suggested the bandage. Apparently this treatment helps in a fair percentage of cases, but may not always eliminate it.
Hope this helps.
Take care,
Bobbi
