I had a three dall decompression on each eye and the pain was minimal. There is a nerve that goes under the floor of the eye socket and the trama of the eye socket being removed kind of shuts the nerve down. The feeling comes back over a period of months. By time the feeling comes back you are healed and there is no pain.

I have had 12 eye surgeries and must say the decopmression was the least painful of all of them. E-mail me if you want to talk about this. Or give me a call at 407-254-9719 and if I am not home leave a message in the National Graves Disease Foundation box on my answering maching. I will call back collect.

I have had decompression surgery on both eyes and remember being surprised that there was very little pain. The doctor did tell me to start on pain meds after I woke up and keep taking them on schedule for a day or so and not let pain get started. But by the second day I didn’t need them. Perhaps some others have had more trouble, but neither of my decompressions resulted in much pain. You may have some discomfort and feel a little tired and shaky but that is more from having surgery. I got on a train and went for a job interview five days after my first decompression, purple face and all. Good luck.

How long does it take after the decompression surgery for the eyes to start to feel better?
