Hi, Dave! Welcome to the BB! It’s great to see another person from MN
on the board. I live in southwestern MN near Odin.I too was treated at the Mayo Clinic and had multiple eye surgeries. I
would love to compare notes. Please email me when you get the chance.Debby

keeps the wind from drying out my eyes when outdoors. The eye
shield is comfortable, light weight and doesn’t look too bad.
With this shield I can ride a bicycle or go fishing on a windy
lake. I still need to put drops in my eyes every hour but at
least I can enjoy the outdoors again. The eye shield consists of inexpensive store bought wrap
around sun glasses that fit on the “inside” of your regular
glasses. They are similar to clip-on sun glasses but without
the clip. To make these sun glasses wind proof, attach a strip
of self sticking door insulating foam around the inside perimeter
of the sun glasses. I needed to trim the foam near the nose to
get an air tight fit.You can find the sun glasses at most drug stores. I got
the self adhesive foam weather strip at a lumber yard where
they use it for sealing drafts in doors. It was 3/8″ thick by
1/2″ wide and 10′ long. I cut it in half lengthwise so it was
only 1/4″ wide before sticking it to the sun glasses. My Graves background:
– new to this BB, read many previous posts on eye problems
– had the Graves thyroid problem 20 years ago
– got the eye disease 7 months ago
– been on Prednisone for 5 months, tapering off now
– will probably soon have radiation/decompression surgery
– live in Rochester MN and being treated at Mayo ClinicAnonymousJuly 31, 1997 at 6:19 pmPost count: 93172Thanks for the suggestion for shielding the eyes outside. It sounds like you are very resourceful. Anyway, I’ll tuck this one into my hard copy files for future reference. I live in a sauna (S. Florida) where the wind typically doesn’t bother my eyes, but I’m thinking about taking an Alaskan cruise where it just might come in handy. Welcome to the board, too.
