I went to the eye institute this morning for my appointment that my
endo made for me. They said “Your appointment is for tomorrow”. So
I filled out the paperwork and drove to work (across town). When I
go to work they were calling saying they were wrong and I should come
back. So I went back. They were somewhat apologetic. The doctor is
a neuro-opthomologist and associate professor at the med. school.
He did a thorough vision exam. and said my left eye was 10 diopters to
the left and the right eye was 20 diopter down. He said he was surprised
that I have been getting by as well as I have with them that much out
of allignment. He said that he didn’t think I would be a candidated for
radiation because it would only stop further swelling of the tissues.
Its been about 16 months since my eyes first protruded and they have
been getting better. He said he would probably recommend strabismus
surgery (moving the attachment point of muscles on the eyeball), but
not until I was off prednisone for a while. He recommended tapering
completely off the prednisone in two weeks. He was really down on long
term use of prednisone. Me too. He called my endo and my endo called
me right after I got back to work for the second time to tell me to
taper off the prednisone. He said that the correction was too much to
correct with prisms but if I wanted we could try. I declined.
Right before I left the optho’s examination room he took my hand, as
if to shake it, and ask if it was alright is he said a prayer. I was
a little taken aback, but said “OK, I guess” or something like that.
So he said a prayer of thanks for my treat-ments from the endo and
asking for guidance in diagnosis and treatment of the eye problems.
I guess it can’t hurt to get all the help you can. It was kind of a
new experience for me with a doctor. I’m sure notgoin to worry about
it. He seems very competent. He said he had treatedover 500 GD
    patients.
Does anyone have any comment on the diagnosis and or treatment?

Just got back from my yearly optho visit. Seeing two and three of evrything right now, but otherwise, okay! I still have no eye involvement!

Hope everyone has a great time at conference and Jerry: I want a picture of Jake and Jan together–I don’t care what they say!
