    Hi Doris,
My daughter has graves disease…but has not had the RAI as of yet. Probably, this summer. I was told by her endo that once you have graves disease, you’ll always have it weather you have RAI or surgery. My daughter is 21 yrs. old, and the endo told me to be sure to tell her ob/gyn dr. when she decides to have children as there are certain precautions needed to take while bearing children. I’m not real certain, but I think she said something about watching the placenta. It’s important that all you drs. know of this disease that you have.

    Good Luck,
    Ruby

It took 2-3 years for me to stabilize.

Wow! I didn’t know that about the placenta. What exactly do you have to watch about the placenta? My son was born with the smallest placenta the ob/gyn had ever seen but I don’t know if that was related to the RAI.

I was diagnosed with GD and was treated with RAI over 2 yrs ago. I am still having trouble regulating my thyroid replacement drug. I would like to know if you aare treated for Graves do you sstill have the disease? I asked my Dr. and he said that was a good question which was up for debate. Any ideas or answers? This is my first time here and this is a great web site. Thanks !

    Hi Julie,

I’m not real sure…but I think it’s not the RAI that has any relation to the placenta, but the graves itself…and to be honest with you, I didn’t get into the placenta discussion too much with the endo ‘cuz my daughter isn’t in the stage of having children, yet. I guess I figured I’d take one problem at a time! But, I do remember her saying that during pregnancy, you should tell your ob/gyn about having graves ‘cuz they’d have to watch the placenta. Sorry, that’s all I remember her saying! Maybe someone else could help more?

    Ruby
