Hi! I’ve just been diagnosed with Graves’ and have tons of questions? Has anyone tried any type of natural or metabolic therapy? I’m not opposed to meds, however, I’m really afraid of taking the RAI path. I’ve written to Thyroid Foundation of America and have the list of recommended reading. Also, I’ve not read anything about the eyelid problems/surgery that I’ve seen an the board. I’m starting off with tapazole(10mg)–what can I expect? Thanks!

        Hi Melanie,

I know what you mean about having a ton of questions. I had lots of concerns just before I had my eye lid surgery back in November. My optho decided that I should just have the eye lid surgery done for now because I had so much pain due to eye exposure.

I did join the National Graves’ Disease Foundation because I wanted more literature about Graves’ Eye Disease. The bulletins #2 and #3 that they sent me did cover the eye problem questions that I had. They sent me a bunch of other good reading stuff too. <grin>

You can read up on the National Graves’ Disease Foundation (NGDF)

I really like having my eye lids back. I can read printed material again without having to blink a million times and my eye pain is gone as long as I continue to use the eye drops like I am supposed too. I tend to forget to put the eye drops in when my eyes don’t hurt.

I do have good news too. I go back to work next Tuesday and I am actually looking forward to going. It is kind of like a double blessing for me for a couple of reasons, most importantly because I can read again and also because I will qualify for the early out retirement that my place of employment is offering. :)
