    Hi, Mich and Julie!

I’ve read that swelling in the eyes and feet can be a rare side effect of propylthiouracil and methimazole, so maybe general swelling could also occur in some people. Also, I thought you’d be interested to know that “With prolonged use, adverse reactions are more common.” (from NGDF’s Bulletin #23). Julie, you may be closer to the truth than you know…

Sorry that I can’t help more. I don’t have any personal experience with either drug.

    Wishing you both well,
    Debby

Also on ATDs, in fact, the same one you’re taking. I’d say allergic reaction, but if you’ve been on it since ’93 that seems doubtful at this point.
My hands swelled painfully when I was on a different ATD, so I was switched to the current one. Am considering saying on the “P” drug indefinately as well, since RAI seems so irreversible.
Sorry I can’t be more help, but I’ll bet someone else may be able to — lots of good posts here.
    Good luck and good health
    Julie
