You don’t have to tell yourself to keep smiling…just hang in there. I know you have had a lot of problems with GD, especially with your eyes. I will pray for you to see improvement soon.

It is Tuesday Morning and I go in for my RAI in 1 hour. I’m so nervous. Will this hurt? when will I feel better? After reading all these posts I’m ready to run. This disease is so scary.

          Dopey,

I felt much like you when I went in for my RAI in December. I didn’t feel a thing. I didn’t get an enormous dose, so it didn’t mess up my stomach or anything. For the next few months, my levels shot up pretty high, but my beta-blocker helped keep everything under control. As to when you’ll feel better, that’s a good question. Some people take only a few weeks. I took almost 6 months. Don’t be too scared. Most of the people on this board are part of the 10% or whatever that have ongoing problems after treatment, whether it’s RAI, ATDs, or surgery. Most people get their treatment and don’t have any major problems after that. I’ll be thinking about you today. Everything will be okay. It always is somehow… :-)

          Love and aloha, Caroline

By the time you read this, you will have had your RAI. Don’t expect anything to change overnight…it takes a long time, 8 weeks in my case. As for being scared, keep coming back here. You will be amazed by the amount of support everyone here offers.

On the other hand, I came crashing down (hypo)…and I do mean crashing…approximately 2 weeks after my one and only dose of RAI. I had no earthly idea what was happening to me as my Doc had just suggested we’d monitor my progress over coming weeks and months. If you start to feel exhausted, depressed you are on your way down and don’t wait to go back for follow up! I recall at about 16 days after just wishing I could go to sleep and not ever wake up and it was a terrifying feeling!!! Oh, now I’m about three years after the fact, feel pretty darn great most of the time and feel RAI was the way to go…for me. My advice is to really pay attention to how YOU FEEL. Wish I’d kept a diary at the time for insight. Good luck!
