    Hi Robin,

I work for an insurance company. We don’t sell major medical insurance (just supplemental like disability, life, cancer, etc.), but I have worked with major med in the past and can probably find out what you need to know.

It may depend on several things – is the policy you have (or had) a group policy – like through your employer – or an individual one bought directly from the insurance company? Individual policies must be approved in each state according to their laws, while group policies are often only approved in the state of issue. State laws can vary a great deal from one another.

Also, there’s a new law (called HIPA or HIPPA – I’m not sure which) that I need to check into. This law was intended to decrease the impact of pre-existing conditions so that people would not be penalized for changing insurances.

If you would E-mail me with some info about your circumstances (state of residence, when you were covered and whether or not it was through your or your spouse’s employer), I’ll be glad to try to help.

    Take care,

    Ceebee

I have been told two separate things. One person said that as long as you have had insurance in the past 12 months, they can not use a pre-exisiting clause against you. I have also been told you have had to had insurance for 12 continuous months not to get the pre-exisiting limitations against you. Thanks in advance!
