I’ve been hypo for several weeks now and had some really nasty muscle cramps. While the cramps are bad enough, the soreness afterward (like the muscle didn’t completely relax for up to a week, and it would cramp up repeatedly in the same place) was insane. The chiropractor, the massages, the sports drinks, and the calcium were just not getting the job done.

Finally, more poor little pain-filled, confused Graves’ brain wondered “Ice or heat? Could that help?”, and the cold weather answered that one for me (NOT ICE!).

So, last night I put the heating pad on my most sore spot, which was keeping me from walking like a human, cranked it to medium (as hot as I could stand), watched the back of my eyelids and a bit of tv about an hour, turned off the heating pad, went to bed, and that most sore spot is honest to goodness, 100% better this morning than it was yesterday! I’m going to keep trying it in different areas, but this is the most successful treatment I’ve found. It’s unbelievable!

Hope this helps someone else as much as it’s helped me,
    Melinda

    Evening all

Just thought I would put down a few thoughts. Though first this is by now means medical fact… more my thoughts based on my own experience.

Some years ago I had a hell of a lot of trouble with my knees, something to do with the muscles not growing symetrically and such… anyways that needed lots and lots of physio. But one of the problems I had is my knees would hurt lots and the pain killers didnt do anything and also they got quit swollen, so twice a week at physio I went through a regime of having some sort of Electormagnetic thingy pointed at the knee while I did certain exercises with the other then they were switched then afterwards before I left they did ultrasonic type stuff on each knee.
I recall that this helped the pain and swelling a lot and so me being me I asked what the deal was and it seemed that the main purpose of both of these was to open up the blood vessels or sommat and increase bloodflow to and from the affected areas.

My physio pointed out that heat would work just as well but in the case of my knees where they needed to get the benefit right deep down heat would take too long. Soon after this I took to have nice long hot soaks in the bath every evening, hot water kind trickling to keep it nice and hot. Well this helped… quite a lot. As for cramps… <g/>” title=”<g>” class=”bbcode_smiley” /> well I have had a heat pad plugged in in my room for quite a while now hehehe… sorry… guess I should have thought to say but I can add my voice to this and say that it can help.</p>
<p>My thinking is that the reason it does help is cos it increases blood flow and such… which unless you have a major hole or cut is a good thing <img decoding=

Well thats all I have to say for now.

Hope you are all having a good weekend…

I was just taken off hypothiuracil (sp)? on Thursday in preparation for irradiation in May. I am experiencing extreme cramps/bloating/black stools. Is this normal?

    Hobbit,

Black stools can mean there is blood in them; you should check with you doctor. Blueberries, common medications, etc. can also cause this, so don’t panic.

I hope you feel better soon.

Well, Hobbit–I should have waited to read all the messages before responding to yours. You mention in a later post that you are taking Pepto Bismol (I didn’t want to mention the brand name, but you already did). That will turn stools black. Good news, sort of. Sorry about the lousy digestion. I have gone through that, too.
