I am looking for a new Endocrinologist that deals with Graves Disease on a regular basis. That is willing to try a few different approches instead of saying your levels are normal….nothing more I can do and then tell me to see my eye doctor.
I am desperate. I have had double vision since the beginning of the year. I am getting close to doing an operation to try and correct it but my I really need the support of an endo that is familiar with this. I would rather try a few other things before getting surgery.
If anyone knows of a good Endocrinologist that deals with Graves Disease, please let me know.
Thanks
MindyHello and welcome! We ask that members *not* post individual doctor names on this board; however, hopefully, someone in the area will see this post and send you a private message.
You can send a private message to another poster by viewing one of their posts and clicking on their screen name, which appears to the right of the post. Then click “send private message”, which will appear towards the right-hand side of the screen. The system will “ping” whatever e-mail address they used to sign up to let them know that they have a private message waiting. (You have to be logged in to the system in order to view your private messages).
Also, a couple of good referral sites are http://www.aace.com and http://www.thyroid.org. On the AACE site, be sure and select the specialty “thyroid dysfunction.”
My opinion is that you need to be followed-now- by a good neuro opthalmologist, to be sure you have good information about your vision. I am inclined to agree with your endocrinologist, regarding your eye symptoms. they really don’t have a darn thing to do with TED. They manage Graves’.
I am not one to be encouraging about trying other methods to help my TED, but i was counting the minutes until I COULD have the wonderful surgical corrections available to me so I could have my life back. You can read my other post that I just wrote a minute ago regarding my experiences.
ShirleyThank you so much for the reponse. My next appointment in January is with a surgeon. This is all really new to me. I definatly need to do some more research. I will be checking out your other posts.
I just feel like my current DR is not interested in any of my symtoms from the Graves disease. He never talks about it and if I ask about other options he shots me down….which is fine….he’s the doctor but I just wish he would talk it through with me. He is my diabetic docotor too and likes to talk more about that. But my diabetes is not my issue right now. I just have a gut feeling that I need to try someone new.
if anyone has any good doctor suggestions in the St. Louis area, please:
