Thanks Bobbi, Bruce & Ann N. Now this is starting to make sense. Everything I’ve read is confusing on this point. Even when they start out trying to be precise, the next thing you see is “forms of hyperthyroidism such as Graves’ disease” or “signs of hyperthyroidism can be found in the presense of proptosis” or just plain “thyroid eye disease”. Oh well. We will concentrate on the eye problems first. Thanks again, Monte. PS I will let you knowhow the tofu works out.

AnonymousFebruary 19, 1997 at 1:40 pmPost count: 93172Hi all
New to this board… just found out the results of my blood test this
morning and my thyroid is hyperactive. Seeing my internest on Monday
for what the next step is. I have read pages on the webdoctor and graves
disease home page, however does anyone have any advice, suggestions they
would like to share? Also, Becky G. mentioned chat sessions. If someone would be kind enough
to tell me… how do I get there? Thanks
Jackie

Doctor put me on Propylthiouracil. Symptons were Heat Intolorance,
High Pulse Rate, Fatigue, and worse of all very bad double vision.
I know every one is different but I am hopeful that my double vision
will go away without surgery.Does anyone have experience double vision, and did it ever go away.
Thanks for the info.

AnonymousApril 4, 1997 at 3:58 pmPost count: 93172I was just diagnosed hyper 2 weeks ago after being sick for several months. I already had mitral valve prolapse so it took me a while to realize that my heart rate and palpitations were worse than usual. When I saw my internist my resting pulse was 130 and I could not breathe with any exertion. I had been hot for weeks, lost a lot of weight and was awake for 2-3 days at a time. My handwriting had gotten unrecognizable. Even I couldn’t read it. My TSH was 0.00. Scan was borderline Graves. I have an appt. with an endo in two weeks, in the meantime on the PTU stuff. Missed two weeks of work already and now working only partial days. I read some of the case histories and felt like they were telling my story! Bad divorce ongoing for two years, custody battles, 16 year old son overdosed on drugs 3 times, etc. etc. I’ve been on Xanax off and on for “panic attacks” and Wellbutrin for depression. Now I know it was this hyper stuff all along. My psychiatrist put me on Cytomel to boost the antidepressants without testing to see if I needed it. It caused me to go toxic. At least I know what I am dealing with now, but I have lots of questions. I haven’t been able to take any of the meds the last few days because I have such nausea and diarrhea also a fever. I used to be hot all the time now I have chills. Does anyone have similar stories, suggestions, significant advise to tell the endo? Anything? Am I going to end up gaining weight when this stabilizes, if it stabilizes? I have the headache from hell, swollen ankles and fingers and chest pain. Help! Valerie

Go to DianneN’s beautiful home page at http://netnow.micron.net/~deecee and you
will find alot of our stories posted.I also had a terrible time from panic attacks due to this wretched disease.
The withdrawal from the xanax was as bad if not worse than the panic attacks!
My thyroid scan was also “borderline” but that was becaue 5% of all
hyperthyroid patients metabolize the iodine very rapidly…(and have a
free T3 that is the hormone to go out of whack first and the normal
checking T4 and T3 first). WHen they checked my T3 and T4 they were border
line high, but when they ran a free T3 and free T4 that day they were
out of the ballpark.I hope you feel better very soon.
