Jake,
I’m so glad that you are back. You are such a big part of this association. More importantly, you have such a good heart and love for your fellow Graves Warriors and their families and friends. Your email brought a smile to my face.

So glad you are ok and up and going. You were missed!AnonymousMay 11, 2004 at 2:32 pmPost count: 93172Jake,
Thanks for giving everyone such a positive spin on GD. It seems like you have been to hell and back yet you sound so upbeat. I’m sure hearing the good news that you didn’t have the big C would kind of do that to you. Congrats on getting your health and your life back!

AnonymousMay 11, 2004 at 3:33 pmPost count: 93172I will try to be back and more active on the board. It is almost impossible to be upbeat and provide support when you are needing support yourself.
So life will get back to normal. I will start to answer more as I get caught up on all my other life projects as well.

AnonymousMay 11, 2004 at 3:37 pmPost count: 93172Well many of you long timers may have noticed I have been absent from the board a great deal. The past few months have been hard on Jan and I since I had been sick. Long story short the doctor’s were about 95% sure I had cancer, they were just not sure where in my body it was.
So after being poked, prodded, biopsied, injected, ingested, scanned, well you know the drill. It turns out it was in infection that was causing my problems. After about six weeks on antibiotics I am back to my old self. No cancer, just plain old ornery Jake.
I have Graves’ and life is good. I am working on two books that have nothing to do with Graves’ disease and have an agent and publisher interested in them. I still work a forty hour week. I still maintain the NGDF web site as well as about six others not related to Graves’ disease. I painted the bath room, worked on the pool deck and enclosure, washed the dogs, and pull my own weeds and do my own yard word. Oh, and I also edit books for my publisher and am working on a book on Hydrogen power now for him.
So when you ask is there life after Graves’ disease? You betcha!!! I have Graves’ disease and life is in fact good.
We are only a click away.

I went through the big question when I was 13 but it ended up being Graves so…. I want to say thanks for being part of a board that has kept my nerves under control during a transition period of scary moments dealing with a bad med change.
